Brief History
Formed in 1975, the membership now includes around 95 of the country's leading retailers. Members range from major High Street retailers to out of town large space occupiers. Key members include Marks & Spencer plc, Woolworths plc, WH Smith plc, Arcadia Group plc, John Lewis, Debenhams and Boots. It can boast a number of significant achievements, which have enhanced the professionalism of the industry and improved the dialogue between landlords and tenants.
Structure of the PMA
An executive Committee of elected members manages the Association. This committee is supported by a number of specialist user groups and sub-committees representing members' interests. These include Large Space Users, Shopping Centres, Local Retailers and Rent Review.
Our Aims

The role of the PMA is to raise and maintain standards of estate management within the retail industry to ensure that property costs are kept to an affordable level and achieve maximum value for money.

This is being achieved through:

Communication - providing a framework for effective communication between property managers

Education - distributing appropriate information to members to help in their roles

Lobbying - helping to influence Government, property professionals and other bodies on issues relevant to the PMA

Liaision - working with other property trade associations and professional bodies such as the RICS, BRC and BCSC
